In our most popular elective course, students learn about visual arts by breaking the craft down into elements of design: line, shape, form, value, space, texture, and color. The basic principles of organizing and combining these elements to create a unique visual composition are covered: balance, movement, rhythm, contrast, emphasis, pattern, and unity.
This elective course covers all the aspects of theater and stage preparation, creation, and performance. Students learn about acting principles, stage direction, lighting, makeup, costuming and props, sound design, and the history of theater. Students will write their own original script, and perform monologs live to complete this course.
Many students at Discovery Academy struggle in academic settings or don’t know how to use the resources available to them to best academic advantage. This course does not focus on any particular school subject, but rather skills for research, test-taking, reading comprehension, etc.
