Parental Involvement

Parental involvement and support is a central part of the therapeutic process. Parents provide important information about the path that led to placement at Discovery Academy, and then become an integral part of the solution to the problematic behavior and attitudes exhibited by the student.

Recognizing that the path that led to a child being placed out of home is often troubling and painful, we support the family members in their own time of recovery, as the student is kept in the safe and supervised environment at Discovery Academy.

Through a combination of structured telephone sessions and visits, communication is fostered and relationships are repaired. We also have online parenting courses available that parents can work through at their own convenience. These courses offer greater insight into the dynamics that exist between parents and a troubled teen and demonstrate some powerful parenting techniques that have been proven to be effective. Our goal is to help students develop a greater appreciation for parents and to rekindle healthy family relationships.
