Philosophy of Discovery Academy
The Discovery Academy administrative and clinical team is comprised of a diversified and qualified group of personnel with expertise ranging from acute residential treatment to wilderness therapy. The culmination of experience and know-how has developed into a philosophy that drives a program culture and curriculum that capitalizes on the value of traditional therapy with a heavy emphasis on the innovative application of experiential therapy. Recent research indicates that teenagers internalize therapeutic issues on a much greater scale through experiential therapy.
Our responsibility as an administrative team is to expose the students to as many thought provoking experiences as possible. Then, in a supporting role, be there to help them understand how their feelings, emotions, and behaviors have affected those around them. This process provides an avenue for self-discovery and personal development. We believe that a student who has lost sight of those distinctive skills and gifts that define their individuality should be supported in a search to rediscover the potential that is uniquely theirs.
