About Discovery Academy

Founded in 1989, Discovery Academy was quickly recognized for its development of an innovative academic and treatment curriculum. The culmination of strong academics, and a therapeutic model that draws on both clinical and experiential therapy, makes Discovery Academy a wonderful, safe place for students to excel academically while discovering who they really are.

Discovery Academy is one of the most unique therapeutic boarding schools in the country due to location and available resources. Located in Provo, Utah, one of the safest cities in America, we have access to two major Universities and a highly educated population. We are able to hire top-notch staff as well as take advantage of the learning environment and activities afforded a college town. However, we are also close enough to the country to provide many powerful outdoor recreational and therapeutic opportunities. As the students progress through the program and demonstrate independent levels of responsibility, more resources within the community are made available to them. We keep in mind that we are preparing these students for independence, whether they choose prep school, college, or employment.

Discovery Academy's educational and treatment philosophy is deeply rooted in the idea that our students and staff need to be productive to appreciate achievement and accomplishment. The more experiential tasks and opportunities our staff can expose the students to, the more opportunities we have to understand and develop the talents, abilities, and character of the individual students.

Discovery Academy is a clinical boarding school whose mission is to inspire each student to a quest for excellence in all areas of life. Through an intensive program of academics, traditional and experiential therapy, and life skills training, students are challenged to excel intellectually, emotionally, socially, spiritually/ethically, and physically. It is the aspiration of the program that enrollment in the academy will be the beginning of a lifelong quest for greater wisdom, integrity, insight, and social consciousness. Staff and student interactions are governed by mutual respect in an environment that balances individuality with community. A commitment to self-discovery and service to others defines the school and our pursuit of excellence.
